His approach

Peter provides an objective and client-orientated service.
To achieve that, he can give guidance of a non-advisory nature to potential lay clients and then fully regulated legal advice for both lay clients and professionals, such as Solicitors or other practising lawyers in other jurisdictions and Licensed Access clients, who may either hold a licence issued by the Bar Standards Board, or be a member of a professional body which has been recognised by the Bar Standards Board.

He acts for individual and corporate clients directly as lay clients, with a view to meeting each client’s specific needs

The practice covers private client, corporate, partnership, public and private fund and insurance work in addition to assisting Family Offices managing significant fortunes.

Peter has also frequently addressed matters involving sensitive issues such as successions and planning for Probate.
An elderly person may ask their close relatives to act as executors under their will.
By way of example, evaluating the consequences when the death of their spouse or partner abroad prompts the decision to come to the UK and the foreign property that they inherit from their deceased spouse includes the right to a usufruit over all or part of the deceased spouse's property?

A lay executor may wish to have guidance as to the implications of dealing with their relative's estate on their death in those circumstances.

Taking a full legal advice on these issues is costly, frequently partially informed and therefore unhelpful. Social media is rarely a satisfactory source of information and guidance on such subtle technical issues.

Peter Harris' forty-five years of experience in this area enables him to give guidance to individuals prior to accepting executorships in this area without that constituting legal advice or a regulated legal service. He can therefore assist on an agreed fee basis.

As a Barrister he is also able to provide probate services in England and Wales, and can work together with notaries and other legal professionals in the foreign jurisdiction concerned.

Peter is also available if needed where the decease has already taken place and the Probate application is to be made. Care is now needed in relation to the proposed tax changes from domicile to habitual residence as probate and succession rights will remain subject to domicile in the future.

This is particularly important where there are assets in Europe and the estate or succession involves the EU Succession regulation.

Careful guidance is all the more valuable when difficult circumstances could cloud points of view and perspectives.
